Woodshed 2023: Meet the composers

Keeping hope alive: oud composer Rahim AlHaj is writing for a joyous future
“I wanted to tell the story of the people,” AlHaj explains, on the line from his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “The concentration is not on the violence, it’s the emotion of the people who lived through the event, so the music is always about the story itself, not my virtuosity or how good I am.”

The CMNZ Board announces with great pleasure that Gretchen La Roche has been appointed as the new Chief Executive for CMNZ. Board Chair, Kerrin Vautier, says that “Gretchen brings artistic and chief executive experience in the arts sector that will be of considerable value in charting CMNZ’s future strategies and representing the organization at national, regional and local levels”.

Vautier, chairperson of Chamber Music New Zealand Trust announced today that “it is with regret that the CMNZ Board advises that Catherine Gibson has resigned as CEO to take up a new role as Chief Executive at Orchestras Central Trust. A search process for a new CEO for CMNZ will now commence.”
